After years of battling unimaginable health challenges, Pride of Britain Child of Courage 2025 winner Florence Bark is finally looking ahead to a brighter future.
The brave youngster from Corby is recovering well following a life-saving double lung transplant—an extraordinary milestone that her family says would never have been possible without the selfless decision of an organ donor.
From Cancer Fighter to Inspiring Thousands
Florence’s journey began in 2022 when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and began treatment at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Although she was declared cancer-free later that year, the battle was far from over.
Serious complications following a stem cell transplant left Florence with severe lung damage, meaning she would eventually need a double lung transplant to survive.
After months of waiting, that life-changing operation finally became a reality.
Now, thanks to the expertise of the medical teams at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital—and the extraordinary generosity of organ donation—Florence is beginning a brand-new chapter.
“She Has Been Given a Second Chance at Life”
Florence’s mother, Stacey, paid an emotional tribute to the doctors, nurses and specialists who stood by the family throughout every stage of their journey.
“Sheffield Children’s will always feel like another home to us,” she said. “Without the incredible staff, Florence wouldn’t be here today.”
But the family also shared a deeply moving message honoring the anonymous donor whose final gift made Florence’s future possible.
“For Florence to be given this second chance at life, another family had to experience the worst kind of loss,” they wrote.
“In the middle of that heartbreak, they made the most selfless decision imaginable—one that saved our daughter’s life.”
The family said they will never forget the sacrifice made by another family.
“Our joy exists alongside someone else’s heartbreak,” they added. “Florence will grow up knowing how precious this second chance truly is.”
An Inspiration Long Before Her Miracle
Even during her toughest days, Florence focused on helping others.
Together with her family, she created a worldwide online support community for children facing serious illnesses and co-founded the Bemorefab charity to bring hope to families experiencing similar battles.
Her courage and determination earned her the Pride of Britain Child of Courage 2025 award, inspiring thousands across the UK.
This week, Florence’s remarkable recovery was also celebrated on ITV’s This Morning, where her father, Andrew, shared the uplifting news with viewers.
A Powerful Reminder About Organ Donation
Doctors caring for Florence say her story highlights just how life-changing donation can be.
Remarkably, Florence’s life has now been saved twice—first by a stem cell donor and now by an organ donor.
Her consultant, Dr. Katharine Patrick, described both stem cell and organ donation as rare opportunities to give someone else the chance to live.
For Florence and her family, the future once seemed uncertain.
Today, thanks to two extraordinary acts of generosity, they can finally begin dreaming about tomorrow—a future filled with hope, gratitude, and a second chance they say they will never take for granted.
