Prince William may be stepping into the role of King sooner than expected, with reports suggesting a possible transition within the next year.
Palace insiders have hinted that King Charles may soon pass the crown to his son, amidst growing scrutiny of his handling of the Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor scandal.
Pressure Behind Palace Walls
Royal expert Rob Shuter shared his insights during a recent appearance on The Nerve with Maureen Callahan. According to Shuter, sources close to the Royal Family believe it’s time for a shift: “I am told within the palace, ‘Your bombshell piece saying Charles should abdicate was read within the palace, and a lot of people agree with you. It’s time to turn the page.’”
Shuter added that many in the palace view William as already taking on many responsibilities, stating, “He’s already the King. He’s the acting King in all but name.”
The Growing Tension
The atmosphere inside the palace is reportedly tense, with voices suggesting a shift is necessary for the monarchy’s survival. One source mentioned, “There’s a feeling of panic behind palace walls right now. It feels like the hounds are at the door,” with speculation mounting that public support for the monarchy could be dwindling.
Looking Ahead: Prince Harry and the Monarchy’s Future
While tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry remain, Shuter suggested that William is focused on more significant matters concerning the monarchy, leaving space for Harry’s potential return to Royal Lodge following Prince Andrew’s departure.
Other sources have also expressed concern about King Charles’s future, with some calling for his abdication. Former royal butler Paul Burrell emphasized, “The monarchy has to be bigger than any one person. So, it’s in safe hands if it goes to William.”
As the monarchy faces its biggest shake-up in years, it remains to be seen whether these changes will come sooner than expected.
Meghan Markle’s Potential Return
In other news, Shuter also hinted that Meghan Markle could be preparing for a return to the UK, confident in showing the public “what they threw away.” An insider claimed, “She’s not going back quietly. If she returns, it will be on her terms.”![]()
