After years of emotional loose ends and half-closed chapters, Alan Carr is finally drawing a firm line under the past — and this time, there’s no turning back.
The 49-year-old comedian and television presenter has revealed plans not only to sell the Kent home he once shared with his ex-husband Paul Drayton, but to leave the UK altogether, setting his sights on a brand-new life north of the border.
More than four years on from their split — and two years after their divorce was finalised — Alan admits staying in the former marital home no longer reflects who he is, or where he’s going.
Speaking ahead of his upcoming appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Alan described the decision as both emotional and overdue.
“I’m Selling Up — And Heading North”
Despite the end of his marriage back in 2022, Alan has remained in the same house ever since — something he now says feels like living in limbo.
“I’m selling up and going up there,” he confirmed, revealing plans to relocate to Scotland.
And, by his own admission, he’s completely serious.
Fresh from his recent success on Celebrity Traitors, Alan appears to have fallen hard for Scottish life. So much so, he’s now actively searching for a castle-style property — turrets and all.
“For real. My money, my decision,” he said. “I’m still in the house where my ex was — we’re divorced and it’s been four years. I’m single, ready to mingle… I just need to move.”
He added that he’s already travelling north to view potential properties, describing the process as “exciting,” even if it’s a step he wishes he’d taken sooner.
A New Chapter — Personally and Professionally
The move isn’t just symbolic. Alan’s time on Celebrity Traitors has reportedly sparked the development of a brand-new project for Disney+, making the shift feel creatively aligned as well as emotionally freeing.
For once, it seems both his career and personal life are pulling him in the same direction — forward.
“I Don’t Really Trust Anyone”
Yet beneath the jokes and bold relocation plans, Alan has been disarmingly honest about the emotional toll of past relationships.
While filming Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job alongside Amanda Holden, he admitted that years of compromise left him feeling overlooked — and determined not to repeat the pattern.
“There are times I wish I’d said ‘no,’” he confessed. “I wish I’d been stronger.”
When asked what he finds most difficult about dating again, his answer was immediate — and telling.
“I don’t really trust anyone,” he said quietly. “That’s the trouble.”
Still, Alan acknowledges that real change requires risk — even when it’s uncomfortable, and even when it means starting over.
Leaving More Than Just a House Behind
For Alan Carr, this isn’t simply a property sale or a change of scenery. It’s about reclaiming independence, releasing the weight of the past, and finally giving himself permission to start again.
After years of standing still, he’s choosing motion.
After years of looking back, he’s finally looking ahead.
And if that next chapter just happens to unfold inside a Scottish castle?
Well — stranger plot twists have happened.
