Ruth Langsford has shared how therapy helped her emerge from a “dark place” following her heartbreaking split from husband Eamonn Holmes. The Loose Women star, 65, has opened up about her emotional journey after the couple, who share a son named Jack, separated in May 2024 after 14 years of marriage.
In a candid conversation with Rylan Clark on BBC Radio 2, Ruth revealed that seeking therapy was the turning point in her healing process. “I’ve had counselling and it’s the best thing I ever did,” Ruth admitted, sharing how a friend’s recommendation led her to seek professional help. At first, Ruth was reluctant, feeling she didn’t need therapy to understand her sadness. However, after being urged, she finally gave in, and it changed her life.
The former This Morning presenter explained that therapy allowed her to reflect on her emotions and guided her in a way that her friends couldn’t. “A counsellor is very different,” she said. “They don’t tell you what to do, they just help you think about things differently.” Ruth also spoke about a key moment when her therapist encouraged her to “find your light,” a phrase that resonated deeply with Ruth. “Everything felt so dark,” she said, “and she told me to use that energy I was feeling, that anger and sadness, and bring that energy here and find my light.”
Ruth’s therapy journey has helped her cope with the breakdown of her relationship in the public eye. Reflecting on the most difficult part of the separation, Ruth shared that dealing with the public scrutiny was the hardest. She explained, “Not everything lasts forever, you know, the hardest thing is having it played out in the public domain. And that just goes with the territory, that just goes with the job.”
In the same interview, Ruth discussed her emotional return to This Morning, where she promoted her new book, Feeling Fabulous. As she spoke about her past with Eamonn, Ruth emphasized that moving forward was her focus: “What I do discuss is picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and starting all over again, as the song says.”
The couple announced their separation in 2024, with a representative confirming that Ruth and Eamonn were in the process of divorcing. Despite the difficult split, Ruth and Eamonn have stated that they remain determined to stay on good terms for the sake of their son.
Ruth also touched on the topic of intimacy, admitting that she feels anxious about the prospect of starting over with a new partner. “I would certainly be anxious about a new partner and intimacy,” she confessed, sharing her insecurities about being vulnerable after such a public breakup.
While Ruth is believed to be single, Eamonn wasted no time moving on, reportedly beginning a relationship with 22-year-younger relationship counselor Katie Alexander.
