Rylan Clark Stranded in Nice After Flight Chaos Forces Him to Miss BBC Radio 2 Show: ‘I Blame Everyone But Myself!’

Rylan Clark was left apologising to fans after travel chaos in France forced him to miss his regular BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday, joking that he would “blame everyone but myself” after becoming stranded in Nice.
The 37-year-old presenter had planned everything carefully before heading off for a sunny getaway with his partner and friends, but unexpected flight cancellations turned his travel plans upside down.
Flight Cancellations Leave Rylan Stuck Abroad
Taking to Instagram, Rylan shared the disappointing news with his followers after learning he wouldn’t make it back to the UK in time for his afternoon radio slot.
He joked:

“Soz about today’s show. I blame everyone but myself. Genuinely had it all sussed out and then flights all cancelled. Thanks Mark for stepping in you legend. Gonna have a rosé and think of you all.”

Veteran broadcaster Mark Goodier stepped in to host Rylan On Saturday while the TV favourite remained in the South of France.

‘I Thought About Taking an Eight-Hour Train’
Rylan also called into Emma Willis’ BBC Radio 2 programme to explain exactly what happened.
He revealed he had taken advantage of a rare break from work to enjoy a few days in Nice.

“I decided to go away with my partner and a couple of friends for a few days because I actually managed to clear my diary.”

But when he arrived at the airport early Saturday morning, his travel plans quickly unravelled.

“I was flying back very early this morning, went to the airport and it was like, ‘No!'”

The presenter even considered making the long journey home by rail.

“At one point I was going to get on an eight-hour train. I’d still have been late for work, but at least I’d have got home today.”

Instead, he chose to remain in France for another night.

“In the end I thought I’d stay another day. I’m not going to make the show today, but thankfully Mark Goodier is stepping in.”

Keeping his trademark sense of humour, Rylan admitted he was making the most of the unexpected extension to his holiday.

“I’ve just had a nice rosé with some ice cubes in it.”

A Difficult Few Years Behind the Smile
The travel mishap comes shortly after Rylan made headlines for his emotional appearance on The Assembly, where he answered candid questions about the breakdown of his marriage to former husband Dan Neal.
Reflecting on admitting he had been unfaithful, Rylan said he has never regretted telling the truth, explaining that the guilt had become unbearable.

“I don’t deal well with guilt, and I don’t deal well with secrets. It made me so ill.”

He also described the devastating impact his divorce had on his mental health, comparing it to having “the rug pulled from under” him and admitting he struggled to recover during that period.
A Fresh Start
Despite the painful chapter, Rylan has moved forward. Earlier this year, he publicly confirmed his relationship with Kennedy Bates after the pair shared romantic photos from a holiday in the Maldives.
Speaking recently, Rylan laughed about introducing Kennedy to his mum, joking that she immediately wanted to know whether the relationship had become serious.
For now, though, the broadcaster appears to be taking his unexpected extra day in Nice in good spirits—raising a glass of rosé while trusting Mark Goodier to keep Radio 2 listeners entertained until he’s safely back home.
