Sam Thompson has opened up about the staggering hidden financial burden caused by his split from Zara McDermott. The reality star revealed on Wednesday the unexpected cost of their breakup and how it’s been affecting his life ever since.
The 33-year-old TV personality, who was once in a long-term relationship with Zara, shared that he’s had to bring in builders to his £1million Chelsea home to fix a huge problem that cropped up after their break-up.
After dating for five years, Sam and Zara ended their relationship in December 2024, with Zara moving out of their shared property. She’s now moved on with One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, and Sam’s had to make some major renovations to the home they once shared. But what’s even more shocking? Sam has had to completely redo his kitchen… for the second time in just two years!
In a candid conversation on his podcast Staying Relevant, Sam revealed the unbelievable reason behind these costly renovations. Turns out, Zara’s initials had been carved into the wooden drawers and the bronze handles of the kitchen during their time together. Sam explained, “It wasn’t my idea, it wasn’t! But their initials were on everything – on the drawers, the handles… I had no choice but to change it all.”
Sam’s pal Pete Wicks was equally stunned, joking, “Your kitchen’s been redone twice in two years. Your builders are practically living there!” Sam continued to explain, “It was a lovely kitchen at first, but after the break-up, those carved initials just couldn’t stay. I had to change everything. I mean, I couldn’t exactly cover them up, could I?”
Their Instagram account, where Sam and Zara used to share home updates, had previously showcased the personalized touches in their kitchen, with fans getting a glimpse of the engraved ‘S’ and ‘Z’ on the handles. Sam noted that Zara’s personal touch had left a lasting mark—one he couldn’t just ignore.
Zara has since moved on with Louis, and sources close to the couple say they’re in the honeymoon stage of their relationship. In fact, Zara has reportedly moved into Louis’ multi-million-pound mansion, following her brief stay back at her parents’ house after splitting from Sam.
Meanwhile, Sam has found new love with model Talitha Balinska, and he’s confessed to being “in love” for the first time in his new relationship. The pair have been enjoying time together, with Sam admitting to his awkward, yet heartfelt confession of love.
