Sarah Greene has shared a deeply personal belief that her late husband, Mike Smith, played a role in guiding her to love again years after his death.
The 68-year-old television star, best known for her time on Blue Peter and Saturday Superstore, revealed that her current partner, Robb Gravett, is one of Mike’s closest friends, and she’s convinced it’s no coincidence that they found each other.
Sarah and Mike were married in 1989, and their union was tragically cut short when Mike passed away in 2014 at the age of 59 after complications from heart surgery, leaving Sarah devastated.
Years later, Sarah found love with Robb Gravett, a former British Touring Car Champion, who had been a part of Mike’s inner circle for decades. Speaking candidly on the My Time Capsule podcast in 2022, Sarah shared her belief that Mike was involved in their connection.
“I sort of know Mike is pulling so many strings in my life,” Sarah said, referring to her late husband’s potential intervention in bringing Robb into her life.
She explained that Robb had tried to reach out to her multiple times, initially thinking he was simply being kind. But then, Sarah received a message that clarified Robb’s true intentions.
“I got a message almost saying, ‘For God’s sake, Greeno, Robb is trying to make contact with you because he actually wants to take you out, not because he’s kind,’” she recalled. “That’s when a whole new conversation started.”
While Sarah was initially nervous about the relationship—particularly because of Robb’s close bond with Mike—she quickly found reassurance in Robb’s words. As Sarah walked into her home, filled with photos of Mike, she voiced her concerns.
“Isn’t it strange coming into the house and seeing all these pictures everywhere of Mike?” she asked. Robb’s response was comforting: “No, it’d be strange if they weren’t there. And remember, I love him too.”
The couple was first photographed together in 2018, though Sarah has kept much of their relationship private.
As Sarah continues to reflect on her love for Mike and her new journey with Robb, it’s clear that love, in all its forms, can arrive in the most unexpected ways—sometimes even with a little help from the ones we’ve lost.
