Trevor Noah, the charismatic host of The Daily Show, has filed a lawsuit against the renowned New York-based Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), accusing orthopedic surgeon Dr. Riley Williams III of performing a botched surgery that left him severely injured.
The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, alleges that Noah received negligent care from the hospital and Dr. Williams between August and December of 2020. Specifically, it relates to surgery performed on November 23, 2020.
Noah claims the surgery, as well as other treatments he received, were handled in a “negligent and careless manner,” resulting in “severe and grievous injuries.” The damages are described in the court documents as extensive—ranging from physical pain and emotional distress to permanent disabilities.
In his filing, Noah outlines the intense toll the injury has had on his life, including being “sick, sore, lame and disabled,” as well as enduring “severe nervous shock” and “great physical pain.” The suit also mentions that Noah has been unable to work for an extended period, severely affecting his career and quality of life.
In response, the hospital denies the claims, calling them “meritless.” A statement from HSS emphasized that the institution maintains its top-tier reputation in musculoskeletal health and is the leading global center in orthopedics. However, they are restricted from discussing specifics due to privacy laws.
Noah is seeking unspecified damages for the injuries he allegedly sustained during the treatment. Dr. Williams, known for his work with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and USA Basketball, has not commented on the lawsuit.
