Vernon Kay has been forced to apologise to his wife Tess Daly after ongoing health issues left him unable to keep up with responsibilities at home — sparking concern he may be pushing himself too far.
The BBC Radio 2 presenter made the candid admission live on air, revealing that persistent back pain has severely limited what he can do day-to-day — including basic household chores.
“I’ve got a list of jobs a mile long,” Vernon confessed, before admitting his condition has made it difficult to complete even simple tasks.
Despite the pain, the 49-year-old attempted to press on — even tackling the garden in a bid to stay on top of things. But the effort only told half the story.
Revealing a message from Tess, Vernon shared the moment that left listeners both amused and sympathetic:
“Why is half the lawn done?”
While delivered in jest, the comment underscored the reality of Vernon’s situation — caught between wanting to help and being physically unable to follow through.
The presenter later joked that he would “keep his feet up and do nothing,” but behind the humour lies a more serious concern, with Vernon now seeking professional help for his condition.
It comes as he continues to open up about the challenges he faces off-air. In a recent interview, Vernon reflected on the impact of aging and the pressures that come with it, as well as recalling a dramatic childhood incident in which he saved his younger brother from drowning.
Fans have since rallied around the presenter, praising his honesty and openness — though his latest admission has also prompted wider discussion about the pressures public figures face to carry on, even when struggling behind the scenes.
For now, support continues to pour in for Vernon and Tess, as the popular broadcaster focuses on recovery — and learning when to slow down.
