Wayne Lineker, the star of Celebs Go Dating, has bravely opened up about his terrifying battle with alcohol. The 63-year-old businessman, now eight months sober, candidly shared how his life spiraled out of control with “vodka for breakfast” during his darkest years.
Speaking on Spencer Matthews’ Untapped podcast, Lineker admitted that his excessive drinking had reached a dangerous point. “I thought I was going to die,” he confessed, reflecting on how his body could no longer withstand the alcohol and drugs. He also recalled how his lifestyle became a “fantasy,” one that left him spiraling deeper into self-destructive habits.
“For years, I tried to give up,” he explained, revealing how the entertainment industry made it especially difficult to break free. “In my line of work, it’s all around you. I was being filmed and released online in a way that wasn’t flattering. But you get caught in the cartoon lifestyle, and it’s just not real.”
But everything changed when his son, Duane, confronted him, saying it was no longer safe for him to pick up his grandchildren from school due to his drinking. This was the wake-up call Wayne desperately needed. “It hit me like a ton of bricks,” he said. “It was a moment of clarity that made me realize I had to change for the sake of my family.”
After entering The Priory for six weeks of rehab, Wayne credits this decision as the “best thing” he ever did. Now, living a more peaceful life in Essex, he’s left his wild Ibiza days behind. His sobriety journey, however, isn’t just about overcoming addiction; it’s also about rebuilding his personal life. After being single for eight years following his split from ex-fiance Danielle Sandhu, Wayne is now looking for someone to share this new chapter with.
Wayne Lineker’s incredible transformation is a testament to the power of self-reflection, family, and the courage to seek help when life feels like it’s spiraling out of control. His story is a stark reminder of how one decision can turn everything around.
