Jesy Nelson has shared a moment so small — and yet so shattering — that it stopped fans in their tracks.
The former Little Mix star, 34, revealed that her baby daughter Ocean accidentally pulled out her feeding tube, leaving Jesy confronted with a sight she says she almost never gets to see — her little girl’s face without medical equipment.
And it broke her heart.
A Moment That Changed Everything
Taking to Instagram Stories, Jesy posted a tender clip of Ocean smiling up at her, cheeks gently squeezed by her mum as she cooed to her. The reason for the smile, however, was bittersweet.
“Ocean pulled out her feeding tube this morning,” Jesy wrote.
“I forget what her little face looks like without it.”
Then came the line that hit hardest:
“We really take for granted the little things. What I would give to see her little face like this every day.”
A Battle No Parent Expects
Jesy welcomed premature twin girls Ocean Jade and Story Monroe in May 2025 with her then fiancé Zion Foster. Last month, she revealed the devastating diagnosis that changed everything: both babies have Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1) — a rare genetic neuromuscular disease.
The condition causes progressive muscle weakness and affects swallowing, breathing and movement. As a result, both girls rely on feeding tubes to survive.
Jesy has spoken openly about how confronting it is to see medical equipment become part of everyday life — and how moments like Ocean pulling out her tube serve as painful reminders of what’s been taken away.
‘I Just Want to Be Their Mum’
In recent interviews, Jesy has described caring for the twins as an emotional rollercoaster — raw, exhausting, and relentless.
“There are medical things I have to do every day that I still struggle with,” she admitted. “When they’re crying and screaming, it feels like I’m hurting them — even though I know I’m helping. I hate that I have to be that person. I just want to be their mum.”
Some days, she says, are unbearably heavy. Others are lighter. None are predictable.
Turning Heartbreak Into Action
Alongside caring for Ocean and Story, Jesy has become a fierce campaigner for early SMA screening. She is pushing for the NHS to expand the standard newborn heel-prick test to include SMA1 — a £1 test she believes could change lives.
Her petition has already surpassed 120,000 signatures.
Jesy has said that had her daughters been diagnosed at birth and treated earlier, the outcome could have been dramatically different.
“It’s not OK,” she admitted. “But it is what it is. All I can do now is fight for them — and believe they’ll defy the odds.”
Putting Music on Hold
Appearing on Heart FM’s Breakfast Show, Jesy confirmed she has stepped back from her music career — at least for now.
“I’ll never say never,” she said. “But my girls are my whole heart and soul. I don’t have time. Getting them strong and changing this test — that’s my focus.”
It’s a decision rooted not in ambition, but in survival.
The Power of One Small Moment
Ocean pulling out her feeding tube didn’t change her diagnosis. It didn’t change the road ahead.
But it gave Jesy something rare — a glimpse of her daughter unencumbered, even for a moment.
And in that fleeting image, Jesy captured a truth every parent understands: sometimes the smallest things are the ones that hurt the most — because they show you exactly what you’re fighting for.
