On April 19, 2026, Sheinelle Jones, co-host of TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, celebrated her 48th birthday in the midst of an emotional storm, as this was her very first birthday without her late husband, Uche Ojeh. This bittersweet occasion was further marked by her first public appearance since the passing of Uche in May 2025 after a brave battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Uche was only 45 years old when he passed away, leaving behind Sheinelle and their three children, Kayin (16) and twins Clara and Uche Jr. (13).

The TODAY anchor shared her raw emotions with her followers via Instagram, revealing how the day was full of “thankful tears” and “painful tears.” In a heartfelt post, Sheinelle admitted, “I can’t stop crying. Thankful tears, painful tears because it’s my first without Uche, and tears full of gratitude reflecting on the last 7 days.”

Sheinelle’s 48th birthday marked not only a personal milestone but also the culmination of a significant career achievement. Just days before, on April 14, she officially released her debut book, Through Mom’s Eyes: Simple Wisdom From Mothers Who Raised Extraordinary Humans, a heartfelt collection of stories and reflections on motherhood. The book’s release was a major event for Sheinelle, who had been working on it for six years. Who is Sheinelle Jones and how many children did she have with her late husband Uche Ojeh?

The weekend of her birthday was also marked by a national book tour where Sheinelle traveled to several cities to promote her book. She expressed her deep appreciation for the overwhelming support she received from fans, saying, “I have never felt so much love in my life. Thank you for the prayers and support over the last year. I don’t have the words to express how it feels to have SOLD OUT crowds in every city.”

Sheinelle continued to reflect on the significance of her book’s message, which she describes as a “love letter to all of the women who have poured into us — whether she’s a mom, grandmother, aunt, teacher, or coach… I want to celebrate us all.”

The special moment was made even more emotional when Sheinelle’s children surprised her on TODAY during the live broadcast, holding up one of her grandmother’s favorite quotes from the book. She shared, “My kids, walking in with one of Grandmama’s favorite quotes from the book – was the icing on the cake. We are resilient and strong, we have faith… and these women deserve to be celebrated!”

Though it’s been a year since her husband’s passing, Sheinelle and her family have found ways to keep moving forward with strength and love. As she wraps up her book tour and reflects on both the painful and joyous moments of the past year, Sheinelle has expressed a deep gratitude for the support of her followers and fans, and she remains committed to sharing her journey with others.

As Sheinelle said, “I feel so lucky. Honestly, you are all getting us through it and I will never stop being grateful to you all.”
