🚨 “I Was Fired”: Susan Sarandon Claims Hollywood Blacklisted Her After Pro-Palestinian Comments as Gaza War Raged

Hollywood legend Susan Sarandon has made an explosive accusation — claiming she was effectively blacklisted from the U.S. film industry after speaking out in support of a ceasefire in Gaza.

The Oscar-winning actress, now 79, said she lost her talent agency, major roles and television access after making pro-Palestinian remarks during Israel’s ongoing bombardment of Gaza — insisting the fallout has followed her far beyond American borders.

Speaking at a press conference in Barcelona ahead of the 40th Goya Awards, Sarandon did not mince her words.

💥 “I Was Fired for Asking for a Ceasefire”

“I was fired by my agency specifically for marching and speaking out about Gaza,” Sarandon told reporters on Friday.

“For asking for a ceasefire — it became impossible for me to even be on television.”

She added bluntly:

“I couldn’t do any major film, anything connected with Hollywood.”

Sarandon said the professional consequences were so severe that foreign directors were allegedly warned against hiring her, despite projects being filmed outside the U.S.

“This Italian director who just hired me was told not to,” she revealed.
“He didn’t listen — but they had that conversation.”

Once a staple of major studio productions, Sarandon said she has since been limited to small independent films, many of them overseas.

“Right now, I kind of specialize in tiny films,” she said.
“Independent directors, first-time filmmakers — mostly in Europe or Italy.”

She acknowledged that this is the main reason audiences have seen far less of her in recent years.

🇪🇸 Praise for Spain — And a Stark Contrast With the U.S.

While critical of Hollywood, Sarandon expressed gratitude for the reception she has received in Spain, praising the country’s political stance on Gaza and the willingness of its artists to speak openly.

She singled out Spanish actors, including Javier Bardem, for using their platforms without fear.

“When you turn on the TV in Spain and hear such moral clarity,” she said,
“it makes you feel less alone.”

🧨 The Comments That Sparked the Fallout

The 79-year-old actress said Friday in a press conference in Barcelona, Spain, that she had lost her talent agency representation over her remarks calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas; pictured at an anti-ICE protest on January 30 in NYC

Sarandon was dropped by her longtime agency United Talent Agency (UTA) in 2024 after remarks she made at a New York rally during the Israel-Hamas war.

At the time, she controversially said Jewish people were “getting a taste of what it feels like to be Muslim” — comments that drew fierce backlash.

She later issued a public apology, admitting her phrasing was “a terrible mistake” and acknowledging centuries of Jewish persecution, including the Holocaust and modern antisemitic violence.

“I deeply regret hurting people with this comment,” she wrote.
“It was my intent to show solidarity against bigotry of all kinds.”

⚠️ “Used as an Example”

The Oscar-winning star has been vocal in her support for Palestine, and present at several rallies calling for a ceasefire in Gaza since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict

In later interviews, Sarandon said her treatment became a warning to others in the industry.

“I’ve been used as an example of what not to do if you want to continue to work,” she told The Times.

She also claimed many non-celebrity workers — from writers to teachers — lost jobs simply for liking posts or calling for a ceasefire.

Sarandon has long been outspoken, protesting wars in Vietnam and Iraq, campaigning for AIDS awareness, gun control, and workers’ rights — even being arrested multiple times.

She insists she will not stop now.

“Injustice has always hurt and angered me,” she said.
“No one deserves to die this way.”

Accepting that her stance may permanently shut her out of mainstream Hollywood, Sarandon said the cost was worth it.

🎭 A Career at a Crossroads

Whether Hollywood will ever welcome her back remains uncertain.

Asked if she expects another major studio role, Sarandon replied simply:

“Not anything in Hollywood.”

Still, she continues to attend red carpets, support humanitarian causes, and work internationally — recently wearing a pro-Palestinian badge at a New York film premiere.

For one of cinema’s most outspoken stars, the message is clear:

🎬 Silence was never an option — even if the price was her career.
