Jesy Nelson Shares Heartbreaking Update on Twin Daughters’ Health Struggles

In an emotional post on social media, Jesy Nelson has revealed the heartbreaking health struggles her twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, are facing after being diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1).

The Little Mix star, 34, welcomed her daughters prematurely in May 2025 with her ex-fiancé, Zion Foster. Sadly, the diagnosis of SMA1 has added immense challenges to their young lives. This rare, life-threatening genetic disease causes muscle weakness and progressive muscle wasting, and without early intervention, it’s estimated that affected children may not survive beyond the age of two.

In a touching video shared this week, Jesy showcased her daughters’ strong bond as they held hands while lying on their play mats. Despite the overwhelming challenges, Jesy remains proud of her daughters’ resilience, calling them “the strongest, most resilient babies.”

In her post, she expressed that caring for her daughters involves difficult medical procedures that leave her feeling torn. “I know they’re doing good, but when they’re crying and screaming, it feels like I’m hurting them,” she admitted. “I just want to be their mum.”

She also opened up about how her life has become a daily rollercoaster, with some days feeling “really fing s” and others a little lighter. “It’s a rollercoaster; I don’t feel like this is going to be a steady journey at all,” Jesy shared.

Fighting for Change

Jesy has become a fierce advocate for SMA1 screening, campaigning for the NHS to expand its newborn blood spot test to include this condition. She believes that had her daughters been diagnosed earlier, they might have had a better chance at life. “Had they had the test, their legs could have been saved,” she said, pushing for change in the medical field.

Hope Amid Heartbreak

Despite the heartbreaking prognosis, Jesy remains hopeful. “My girls are the strongest, most resilient babies and I really believe they are going to defy all the odds,” she said in an interview, emphasizing her determination to make the most of every moment with her daughters.
