The former Sky Sports presenter, who left Julia in 2016, has opened up about the timeline of their marriage breakdown, denying claims that he abandoned her during her battle with thyroid cancer. “I didn’t leave Julia dying of cancer,” Keys said, clearing up rumors that have surrounded their separation. “She had cancer in 2008 and ’09, and we sought out the best specialists for her treatment. We traveled for 30 days straight for the best care.”

Richard also refuted accusations that his affair with Lucie, his daughter’s close friend, was a betrayal, calling the narrative surrounding the relationship “nonsense.” “Lucie’s one of the strongest women I’ve ever met, and people have got the wrong idea about her,” Keys said, defending both Lucie and himself.

The affair and his subsequent marriage to Lucie in 2023 caused deep family divides, with his ex-wife Julia revealing in her 2018 book The MANScript how the infidelity devastated their family. “Richard’s affair didn’t just devastate me, but it affected our children too,” she wrote, opening up about the emotional turmoil she faced, including battling cancer while caring for her mother and father.

Despite the past controversies, Richard also revealed that, at nearly 70, he would like to become a father again with Lucie. “I’ve seen men my age who’ve become fathers for the second time, and they’re much more relaxed,” he shared, expressing his desire for a fresh start.
