Meghan Markle has kicked off her highly-anticipated tour of Australia, but tensions are rising. Despite the fanfare, Meghan has told Australians to “call me Meg” in a move that has raised eyebrows. The Duchess, along with Prince Harry, is in the country for a tour that some critics say is all about “self-promotion” and “cash-grabbing.”

Their arrival in Melbourne has stirred up controversy as they visit hospitals, meet with young patients, and attend charity events. However, locals have questioned their true intentions. Some have accused the Sussexes of using their royal connections to profit, with Meghan reportedly charging up to $250,000 for appearances at exclusive events, including a girls’ weekend retreat that failed to sell out.

While the couple insists their trip is “privately-funded,” critics are calling it out as a costly display, with Australian taxpayers said to be covering security costs. One Melbourne resident even stated: “We don’t want you here.”
Amid the criticism, Meghan and Harry appeared at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital, meeting young cancer patients and their families, offering smiles and support. Meghan also went solo to serve frittata at a women’s refuge, before the couple attended the National Veterans Arts Museum.

But, as Meghan’s comment to a poet “Call me Meg?” suggests, is this all part of a carefully crafted public image, or is she genuinely shifting her approach to life?
