Ryan Seacrest has opened up about the heartbreaking final moments he shared with his father, Gary Lee Seacrest, who passed away after a long battle with prostate cancer.
In an emotional revelation during his podcast on October 31, Ryan shared how he and his family were able to say goodbye to Gary in his final days. The iconic television host described the poignant moment when his father, with his last bit of strength, expressed his love for the family and gave Ryan one final piece of advice.
“I remember it so vividly,” Ryan said, his voice filled with emotion. “He looked at me, and with so much power in his eyes, he said, ‘Take care of your mom.'”
The 50-year-old went on to share that his father, in his last moments, spoke lovingly to his sister and her husband, urging them to look after his granddaughter, Flora. “And then, just a few seconds later, he closed his eyes and said, ‘I’ve got to go.'” Ryan expressed that it was clear his father was at peace, knowing his time had come.
Ryan detailed how his family spent the final days by Gary’s side. “My mother, sister, and I were all there holding his hand, kissing his forehead, watching his last moments,” he said. “It was the hardest thing, a strange combination of emotions. It’s difficult to see someone you love go, and at the same time, it’s the end of a long, painful battle.”
Reflecting on his father’s life, Ryan shared the profound impact Gary had on his family. “He was a champion of family dinners,” Ryan explained. “He always insisted on us sitting down together, eating and talking, and he would show up without fail.”
Gary’s devotion to his family was evident. “He was incredibly proud of my mom and their 56 years of marriage,” Ryan said. “He loved my sister, and he was so proud of her family. He was proud of the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, which we did together and he helped run for nearly two decades.”
Ryan fondly remembered the man who always made his family feel loved. “He was the ultimate gentleman. He treated my mom with so much respect, just like a man should.”
In an Instagram post, Ryan called his father “my best friend,” adding, “He was a devoted husband for 56 years, an incredible papa to Flora, and my best friend.”
Ryan’s emotional words serve as a heartfelt tribute to his father, sharing with fans the deep love and admiration he had for the man who helped shape him into who he is today.
As fans and family continue to grieve the loss of Gary Lee Seacrest, Ryan’s openness about the difficult journey has inspired many.
