“I CAN DO BETTER” — Megyn Kelly’s Husband Reveals Wild First-Date Moment Involving Security, a Hotel Door Visit & a Kiss That Changed Everything

Megyn Kelly and her husband Douglas Brunt’s early romance has resurfaced with surprising new details after Brunt shared an intimate behind-the-scenes story from their very first date, revealing a moment that almost went viral-worthy in real life.

Speaking during an interview at the Met Ball, Brunt recalled how their relationship began under unusual circumstances due to Kelly’s security concerns at the time. According to Brunt, Kelly was dealing with a stalker during that period, meaning she was accompanied by security throughout their entire first date — including during what was meant to be a romantic goodbye. Megyn Kelly and Douglas Burnt at the White House Correspondents' Dinner

“So she had security with her 24/7,” Brunt explained. “Our first date went great. It was the kind of night that was clearly going to end with a kiss. But I had to kiss her in front of the security guards. It was awkward. It was like our parents were watching.”

But what happened next the following morning caught even him off guard.Megyn Kelly and Douglas Burnt at the Vanity Fair Oscar party

Brunt revealed that the next day, Kelly unexpectedly showed up at his hotel room door — this time alone — for a second goodbye kiss.

“The next morning she knocked on my hotel room door. She was alone. She walked into the room and said: ‘I can do better,’” he said.So in love: Kelly, 45, and Brunt, 44, were married in 2008 (wedding photo above)

The couple, who married in 2008, have since built a strong family life together, raising three children: Edward, Yardley, and Thatcher.

Brunt, an author known for books including Ghosts of Manhattan and The Means, also shared that Kelly has largely kept their relationship private over the years, despite occasionally revealing personal anecdotes in interviews.

Kelly was previously married to Dr. Daniel Kendall before divorcing in 2006. Her marriage to Brunt followed shortly after, marking the beginning of what has become a long-standing partnership in both family and public life.Gal pals: Kelly and Wendi Deng outside the entrance to The Standard Hotel in New York for a Met Ball afterparty on Tuesday (above)

Over the years, Kelly has occasionally opened up about her marriage, including once joking in an interview that intimacy plays only a small role in their relationship, describing it as “five percent of the marriage when it’s good.”

Despite their public profiles, the couple has largely kept their private life away from constant media attention — making rare stories like this first-date moment all the more intriguing for fans.
