Jeff Brazier Breaks Down in Tears as He Makes Heartfelt Apology to Son Bobby: “I Know What a Valuable Lesson I’m Teaching Him”

Jeff Brazier delivered one of his most emotional public moments to date after breaking down in tears during a live recording of Pete Wicks’ Man Made podcast, where he opened up about his mental health journey and shared a deeply personal apology to his eldest son, Bobby Brazier.
The television presenter became visibly emotional as he reflected on one of the lowest points in his life, admitting that simply talking about the experience still brings him close to tears.
“I Was a One… Heavy”
Speaking candidly on stage with Pete Wicks, Jeff recalled attending The Unmasked Man, a men’s mental health retreat that encouraged participants to be completely honest about how they were feeling.

Participants were asked to introduce themselves, rate how they were feeling on a scale from zero to ten, and describe that feeling in a single word.
When it was Jeff’s turn, the emotion overwhelmed him.

“They did a check-in, so they’ll simply do, ‘What’s your name, give me a number between zero and ten as to how you feel, and give me a word that associates.'”

Remembering that moment, Jeff admitted he could barely hold himself together.

“I was almost in tears, really, by the time it got round to me, and I had to say, ‘Jeff, one… heavy.'”

Even now, he confessed, the memory still affects him.
“It still makes me emotional talking about it,” he explained, adding that finally putting his feelings into words allowed him to receive support from the other men attending the retreat.
Jeff described the experience as a turning point, saying that opening up instead of bottling everything inside helped him decompress during an especially difficult period of his life. He also hinted that there had been “something going on at home,” though he chose not to elaborate.
A Tearful Apology to Bobby
The most powerful moment of the conversation came when Jeff turned his attention to his eldest son, Bobby.
Fighting back tears, he admitted feeling guilty that his son had witnessed him in such an emotional state.
“I want to apologise to Bob, almost,” Jeff said.
“Because he doesn’t often see me upset.”
But after pausing to gather himself, Jeff revealed why he ultimately believes showing vulnerability is important.
“I know what a valuable lesson I’m teaching him.”
The heartfelt admission resonated with the audience, highlighting Jeff’s belief that fathers should not feel pressured to hide their emotions from their children.
A Father First
Jeff shares Bobby and younger son Freddy with his late former partner, Jade Goody. Since her death in 2009, he has often spoken openly about raising his sons as a single father while helping them navigate life in the public eye.
Bobby, now 23, rose to fame after starring as Freddie Slater in EastEnders before later competing on Strictly Come Dancing.
Despite their family’s many public challenges over the years, Jeff said fatherhood remains the greatest source of learning in his life.
“I would say my kids are my biggest teachers,” he reflected.
“I would say Fred’s more of a teacher than Bob, but for good reason.”
An Honest Conversation About Mental Health
While Jeff’s tears became the defining moment of the live podcast, the wider discussion focused on something even bigger—breaking the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.
By sharing one of his most vulnerable experiences, Jeff offered a powerful reminder that asking for support is not a sign of weakness, but of strength. His emotional apology to Bobby ultimately became a message not only for his son, but for fathers everywhere: sometimes the most valuable lesson a parent can teach is that it’s okay to be vulnerable.
