Ant McPartlin has revealed the stomach-turning reason his wife Anne-Marie Corbett refused to eat at what was meant to be a “lovely restaurant.”

The Geordie TV favourite recalled the awkward moment during an episode of his Hanging Out podcast, which he co-hosts with his longtime best friend and presenting partner Declan Donnelly.
According to Ant, the couple had visited a newly refurbished restaurant with Anne-Marie’s mother and their young son Wilder when the unexpected incident unfolded.
“Well this is the thing, so I went to this really lovely restaurant. It’s just been done up right? You go in and you can see the chef’s cooking,” Ant explained, describing the venue’s open kitchen layout.

The group had taken their seats and were preparing to order, with Ant’s mother-in-law generously telling everyone they could choose whatever they wanted from the menu.
“So we go and sit down, and my mother-in-law’s like, ‘Have whatever you want, I’m ordering, have whatever, have the fry-up if you want,’” he continued.
Ant had been at the restaurant with Anne-Marie and their son Wilder, while Anne-Marie suggested they order a bigger meal that would keep them going until dinner.
But just as the waitress arrived to talk them through the specials, Anne-Marie suddenly reacted in a way that left everyone at the table stunned.
“So anyway she’s running through the specials, my wife gets the menu like that and just goes, ‘Oh my God,’ really loudly, and it shocks all of us,” Ant said.
“The waitress stops talking. Wilder stops talking, Mother-in-law stops talking… and she gives no explanation. She goes, ‘We’ll have croissants.’ I’m like, ‘What?’ and she looks at me and goes, ‘We’ll have croissants.’”
Ant admitted he was completely confused by the sudden change of plan, especially as his mother-in-law had offered to pay and he had been looking forward to ordering a full fry-up.
It was only moments later that Anne-Marie explained what had caused her reaction.
She told Ant: “I’ve just seen the chef picking his nose.”
Ant continued: “She said, ‘We can’t eat here now.’ I said, ‘We’ve just ordered croissants!’ She went: ‘We can’t. If that chef picks up the croissants with those boggy fingers, then I can’t.’ She goes, ‘We can’t eat here. I’m going to have to go and say.’”
The shocking restaurant moment sparked a debate between Ant and Dec about whether they would still eat somewhere after seeing a chef do something unhygienic.
Dec admitted he might still stay, reasoning that chefs often use tongs and other kitchen tools to handle food.
Ant and Anne-Marie married at St Michael’s Church in Heckfield, Hampshire, in 2021. The couple later welcomed their son Wilder in May 2024.
