Finnian Garbutt, beloved for his role as Ryan Power in Hope Street, has made a heartbreaking announcement to his fans. At just 28 years old, Finnian has revealed that his cancer diagnosis, initially thought to be under control, has taken a tragic turn. The actor, who was first diagnosed with skin cancer in December 2021, shared the devastating news that his illness has progressed rapidly and is now deemed incurable.
After undergoing surgery to remove the cancer early in 2022, Finnian was on the path to recovery. But recently, he shared a deeply emotional update on social media, revealing that the cancer has spread to his back and hip, leaving him in constant pain. Doctors have confirmed that his prognosis is now terminal, and he is in the final stages of his life.
In a heartfelt message to his followers, Finnian explained why he chose to go public with his news: “I’m putting this out there because it’s really difficult to tell people individually. I hope that now it’s in the open, I can spend the remaining time with my amazing family and friends.”
Reflecting on his life since his diagnosis, Finnian spoke of the achievements he’s proud of despite the hardships. “Since being diagnosed, I’ve achieved so much. I’ve starred in 30 episodes of a TV show, led a movie (which should be out soon), bought my own home, married my best friend, and become a father to an incredible baby girl who makes me smile every day.”
He also expressed gratitude for the support he’s received: “Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me and my family. If anyone wants to meet for a pint, coffee, or just to chat, please reach out, and I’ll try to make it work.”
Finnian is married to Louise, his best friend and wife, and they share a 17-month-old daughter, Saoirse. His family has been a source of strength throughout this difficult journey.
The announcement has led to an outpouring of support from co-stars, friends, and fans alike. Hope Street co-star Luke Delaney expressed his condolences, writing, “Mate, I’m so sorry to hear this. You’re an inspiration and a fighter. Sending all our love to you and your beautiful family.”
