Kelly Ripa and David Muir have long shared a bond that extends well beyond the studio, blending professional respect with personal friendship. Ripa recalls seeing Muir report for World News Tonight for the first time and being so impressed that she immediately emailed him through ABC’s internal system—a move technically reserved for official communications. “I wrote, ‘Dude. You looked amazing tonight. Don’t know what was going on. Looked kinda dangerous where you are. But just wanted to let you know that you looked amazing,’” Ripa shared. Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos, notes Muir’s skill at the grill, joking that their children would rather eat at Muir’s house than anywhere else.

In her book Live Wire, Ripa wrote, “To David Muir, you are the backbone and moral compass I need sometimes.” Muir returned the sentiment on Ripa’s birthday, posting a playful photo of the two of them laughing: “Another year…happiest birthday @kellyripa. Their bond even includes whimsical discussions about the future. During a July appearance on LIVE, they joked about running a doggy day care together—a playful “Plan B” for life after ABC—revealing a shared vision that combines friendship, fun, and shared adventures.
