Richard Madeley opens up about a major blow-up with wife Judy Finnigan during a French getaway – and admits he’d have been “in less trouble” if he’d had an affair!
Richard Madeley has shared a hilarious yet dramatic story from his 38-year marriage to wife Judy Finnigan. The Good Morning Britain host revealed that a holiday row with Judy left her not speaking to him for two days – and he learned a valuable lesson in the process.
The couple, who first met in the 1980s when they worked together as reporters for ITV, have built a relationship filled with love, family, and, of course, a fair share of arguments. But Richard’s latest confession about one particular row during a trip to France in 2021 left viewers stunned.
The French Holiday Fiasco That Left Judy Furious
Richard, known for his candid and often funny anecdotes, recounted the moment when his blunder during a summer trip with Judy caused major tension between them. It all started with the task of packing their car for the journey. Richard, who usually drives, was also responsible for packing everyone’s clothes for the holiday.
Judy had given clear instructions: “There are two sets of clothes on hangers, one on the left and one on the right, you pack them both,” she said. Richard agreed, but things quickly went downhill.
Upon arriving in France, Judy asked, “Where’s that jacket I wanted to change into? Where’s that skirt?” Richard realized with horror that he’d left half of her clothes in London – including some of the special outfits she had bought just for their French getaway. “She bought them especially for France,” he added, clearly still regretful about his mistake.
Richard’s Hilarious Realization: “I’d Have Been in Less Trouble If I’d Had an Affair”
In his usual self-deprecating style, Richard admitted: “I think I would have been in less trouble if I’d had an affair.” Fans couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation, as Richard’s packing disaster turned into a memorable marital mishap.
Despite his apology and frantic efforts to make it right, Judy wasn’t happy. “She didn’t speak to me for the first two days,” Richard revealed, emphasizing just how serious the situation had been.
FedEx to the Rescue
Richard added that, thankfully, the situation was saved by a quick FedEx delivery. “Thank God for FedEx,” he laughed, relieved that Judy’s summer clothes arrived just in time to salvage the rest of their trip.
Reflecting on the experience, Richard confessed: “You just don’t leave your wife’s summer clothes behind – especially when she bought them specially for the trip.” He admitted he’d learned his lesson the hard way. “I’ll never make that mistake again.”
A 38-Year Marriage Filled with Love – and Hilarious Blunders
Richard and Judy, who share two children and five grandchildren, have spent decades in the public eye as one of Britain’s most beloved showbiz couples. Their chemistry, both on and off-screen, has captivated fans for years. But, like any long-term relationship, they’ve had their share of arguments – and Richard’s latest reveal proves that even TV legends aren’t immune to the occasional marital misstep.
From their first meeting in the 1980s to their current roles as doting grandparents, Richard and Judy’s relationship has been filled with both love and hilarious chaos. This particular row, though, will likely go down as one of their most memorable moments in their long and eventful marriage.
