Karoline Leavitt Cancels Maternity Leave and Returns to Work at 39 Weeks Pregnant After White House Correspondents’ Dinner Sh00ting

Karoline Leavitt is earning widespread praise for her remarkable dedication as she steps back into her role as White House Press Secretary, just days after announcing her maternity leave. At 39 weeks pregnant with her second child, Leavitt stunned both fans and colleagues alike by returning to work on Monday following a harrowing shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The 28-year-old had initially planned to begin her maternity leave ahead of her due date, but following gunfire at the prestigious event on Saturday night, Leavitt, who was due to give birth any day now, made the bold decision to cancel her leave and address the crisis in a press briefing.

The chaotic scene unfolded at the dinner when a gunman, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, breached security and opened fire. The shooter was swiftly neutralized by law enforcement, but the incident sent shockwaves through the evening’s festivities, which had already been star-studded with political and celebrity figures, including former President Donald Trump.

Leavitt, who is expecting a baby girl with husband Nicholas Riccio, had previously announced she would be stepping away from her duties to prepare for childbirth. However, just three days later, the dedicated press secretary was back at the podium, confidently taking charge of the situation.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Leavitt shared: “I will hold a Press Briefing at 1pm ET today.” The announcement quickly went viral, with political adviser Katie Miller sharing the message with the comment, “She’s back from maternity leave after a whole weekend! 39 weeks pregnant.”

Fans were quick to applaud Leavitt for her incredible resilience, with many expressing admiration for her unwavering commitment to her role.

“I can’t believe she’s still working at 39 weeks. She’s a BOSS,” one user wrote, while another chimed in: “Somehow, this doesn’t surprise me. She seems like the type who would be having press briefings while in labor if she could.”

Others playfully referenced her New Hampshire roots, calling her “a warrior” and saying, “NH girls are built different. Love her.” One fan even joked, “I swear she’ll be at the podium until her water breaks!”

Despite the overwhelming praise, some expressed concern for Leavitt’s well-being. “While I love her fight, I hope she will take the time she needs for that precious baby,” wrote one commenter.

Leavitt’s decision to return to work so close to her due date is a testament to her dedication, with one fan calling her “Superwoman” and another adding, “Outstanding woman, truly a beautiful American lady warrior.”

The White House Press Secretary had previously made light of her maternity leave in a Friday briefing, saying, “This will likely be my last gaggle for some time… I’m about ready to have a baby any minute, so I’ll see you guys very soon. I know you’ll be in very good hands with my team here at the White House.”

Leavitt, who announced in December that she was expecting a second child, has a son, Nicholas Robert “Niko” Riccio, who was born in July 2024. She had planned to take time off to prepare for the arrival of her daughter, but the recent events prompted her to cancel those plans and jump back into action.

As the White House press team rotates in her absence, Leavitt’s unwavering determination has sparked admiration across the nation. “She’s not just a press secretary; she’s a true example of strength and perseverance.”

While the shooting was a traumatic event, the quick and effective response from the press secretary and law enforcement highlighted the resilience of those who serve at the highest levels of government. And Karoline Leavitt, with her fierce dedication, continues to embody the spirit of leadership that many admire.
