Kate Garraway, 59, has spoken for the first time about her blossoming relationship with British economist Liam Halligan, 57. Going public with the romance last week, two years after the death of her husband Derek Draper, Kate described the new relationship as a “lovely” escape while tending to her unwell parents.

Speaking at the Chelsea Flower Show on Tuesday, Kate admitted that the couple hasn’t had time for proper dates due to her caregiving duties, laughing off concerns about jinxing the romance. “It’s lovely. We basically haven’t really had time for a proper date! I don’t want to jinx it!” she said, adding, “We all love an Irishman, don’t we?”

Kate explained to The Mirror that her time has been consumed by caring for her elderly mother and father, who have not been well. Despite these responsibilities, she finds comfort and joy in her connection with Liam.
Liam recently revealed that he and Kate had become good friends after both unexpectedly found themselves single. On Mark Dolan’s Talk TV show, he said, “In recent years, for different reasons, we have both become single, against our wishes. So, in recent weeks and months, Kate and I have become good friends.”
Rumours of a romance began last month when the pair were seen together in Liam’s hometown of Saffron Walden, Essex, enjoying a night at The Railway Arms pub while Liam performed with his band. Earlier this month, they were spotted laughing and cuddling during the Duchenne Dash, a charity cycle ride to Paris.
A source told the Mail on Sunday, “It’s all very exciting and Kate is giddy. It is just so lovely for her friends and family to see. She will never stop loving Derek and is still grieving, but she is finding a way to be happy.”
Kate’s new relationship appears to be a welcome source of joy amid ongoing responsibilities and the challenges of managing her personal and family life.
