Kelly Ripa Reveals What Really Happened When Mark Consuelos Was First Left Alone With Their Kids

Kelly Ripa is revisiting one of the more memorable early moments from her life as a busy working mother.

In a behind-the-scenes social media clip from a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa, 55, opened up to the audience about what happened the first time she left her husband, Mark Consuelos, also 55, alone with their children when they were still little.

The couple, who have now been married for decades, share three children together: son Michael, 28, daughter Lola, 24, and son Joaquin, 23.

Ripa recalled that the incident happened while she was away filming in Chicago, when their youngest child, Joaquin, was only around 6 months old.

“We were shooting this show in Chicago. Joaquin was like 6 months old. I hired babysitters to work in 8-hour shifts, like nurses,” Ripa explained.

But when she returned home two days later, one comment from the final babysitter left a lasting impression.

“When I came home, two days later, the last babysitter was on shift. She said to me, ‘You can’t die, because he doesn’t know where anything is,’” Ripa remembered.

The remark clearly stuck with her.

“So I was like, good note,” she added, nodding. “My god, I can’t die!”

Ripa and Consuelos have often shared humorous, honest stories about marriage and parenting, especially now that their children are adults.

In March, the family celebrated Consuelos’ 55th birthday with emotional and playful Instagram tributes from both Ripa and their daughter Lola.

Lola shared a carousel of photos and videos showing sweet memories with her father over the years. In the caption, she called Consuelos her “superhero” and described him as one of the most important people in her life.

“Happy birthday to my superhero. You will forever and always be the most important man in my life,” Lola wrote. “I wish more than anything that I were with you today, more than ever this year❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I LOVE YOU DAD 🎀🎀🎀🎀🎀 the coolest Mexican, Italian man to walk this earth!!!!!!!”

Ripa, who now co-hosts Live with Kelly and Mark with Consuelos, also marked the occasion with a birthday post of her own.

In her post, she shared a 10-photo carousel featuring a mix of throwback and more recent pictures of the former All My Children actor blowing out birthday candles.

“Happy birthday @instasuelos a man who loves cake and party hats more than most people, and I love you ♥️🎂♥️🎂” she wrote.

Ripa and Consuelos married in May 1996, just one year after meeting on the set of the soap opera All My Children in 1995.

Since then, the couple have built a long-lasting marriage while raising their three children, who are now all adults.
