Louise Minchin, BBC Breakfast star, has shared a health update after a terrifying frostbite scare forced her to quit a daring Arctic challenge. The 57-year-old presenter was participating in the Inuvik Weekend Warrior Fat Bike Challenge, attempting to cycle 300 miles through the brutal Arctic Circle to raise funds for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

However, days into the challenge, Minchin and fellow athlete Mimi Anderson, 61, found themselves in extreme danger due to dangerously low temperatures. Louise took to Instagram to share that they had to cut their challenge short to seek urgent medical attention, as both had developed frostbite after enduring the relentless cold.

Louise reassured her followers that she was now home in time for Easter after spending some time in the hospital. She wrote, “I am out of hospital in time for Easter, thank goodness. Thanks to all of you for your messages. Profound thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and staff who have looked after me over the last two weeks both here in the UK and in Canada. I am incredibly grateful for the care you have all given me.”
Her post was met with an outpouring of support from fellow TV stars, including Michelle Ackerley, who expressed her relief: “So good to hear you’re home. Hope you have a restful Easter.” Helen Skelton, another well-known face, added, “Sending love superwoman.” Gabby Roslin echoed, “Thank goodness you’re home. Sending you so much love and please take good care of yourself.”
The BBC Breakfast star had been braving sub-zero temperatures and wind chill as she pushed through the challenge alongside Mimi. Despite their best efforts, the duo reached a point where they knew continuing would be too dangerous, and they were forced to halt the ride. “We did around 140k in temperatures as low as -40 degrees,” Louise explained in an earlier update. “The combination of the temperature and wind meant despite having prepared as much as we could have, it was a huge risk to go on.”
Once back in Canada, Louise and Mimi were given immediate medical attention, and both received frostbite treatments.
However, the star is no stranger to physical challenges, having taken on some grueling feats in the past, such as the Gladiators Celebrity Special. During one event, Louise was hit in the face by a Gladiator, leaving her with a bloodied nose. “I don’t know who cut my nose, but there was blood,” she recalled, adding that the pain didn’t register until after the fight was over.
This latest Arctic adventure wasn’t the only physical test Louise has faced—she has continuously pushed her limits for charity and personal growth. Her strength, resilience, and positive spirit have earned her respect from fans and colleagues alike, who continue to send her well-wishes.
Despite the frostbite scare, Louise is not one to be deterred by setbacks, and she plans to recover fully in time for upcoming projects.
