Their journey together began in 2021 when they went on their first date at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, with cameras rolling for the popular reality series. However, in the latest season, Abbey, 27, revealed that she and David, 31, were “not ready to get married,” a sentiment that seemed to foreshadow the couple’s eventual split.

Sources close to the couple shared that the breakup was largely  due to their differing views on when to take their relationship to the next level. “She was ready years ago, but he still needed time,” an insider explained. Abbey, who had previously hinted at marriage during earlier seasons, was openly disappointed by the lack of movement on that front.

The couple, both living with autism, became a fan favorite due to their stability and enduring affection for each other. Fans were especially moved when Abbey wrote and performed a song for David, celebrating their relationship and even referencing her preference for gummy bears over flowers. But despite the romantic gestures, their relationship hit a roadblock when their views on marriage didn’t align.

In a recent episode of Love on the Spectrum, Abbey had downplayed her desire for marriage, stating that they considered themselves “already married in our hearts.” She also expressed a reluctance to rush into marriage, stating she didn’t want to become a “divorced lady like my mom.”

Abbey had previously shared her hopes of marrying David at the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, but her feelings seemed to shift as time passed. As her co-stars Tyler White and Madison Marilla got engaged during the same season, Abbey admitted, “Hopefully we’re next!” However, she has since distanced herself from those aspirations.

Despite their separation, Abbey spoke fondly of David in recent interviews, praising him for his caring gestures and their shared experiences, including trips to the Griffith Observatory, Universal Studios, and Disneyland.

The couple’s split marks the end of one of Love on the Spectrum’s most iconic relationships, leaving fans wondering if love can truly last when timelines for marriage don’t align.
