Reba McEntire had an urgent correction to make during a live interview on Today when Savannah Guthrie mistakenly referred to her fiancé Rex Linn as her husband. The 70-year-old country icon was quick to set the record straight, much to the surprise of viewers.
While discussing her relationship with Rex, who she got engaged to nearly a year ago, Guthrie casually referred to him as McEntire’s husband, prompting a swift reaction from the singer. “Now, wait a minute,” McEntire interjected, lifting her finger to stop Guthrie, adding, “Before everybody has a conniption fit at home, we’re just engaged.” 
The camera panned to Rex, who didn’t seem aware of the mishap, but smiled when he realized he was on screen. McEntire humorously explained that her family would be upset if they thought she’d secretly married Rex, admitting, “My family will go, ‘Wait, you didn’t tell us?!’”

McEntire shared that Rex reached out to her when her mother, Jacqueline McEntire, was battling cancer. “In 2020, when Mama got sick, he called me,” McEntire recalled. Their engagement was officially revealed at the 2025 Emmy Awards, where they walked the red carpet together, subtly confirming their status as fiancés.
