In a heartwarming moment during a live segment on TODAY, Sheinelle Jones shared a deeply emotional connection with yellow butterflies while filming the show in Jamaica. As she spoke with co-host Jenna Bush Hager, Sheinelle revealed that butterflies, particularly yellow ones, hold a special place in her heart and are a constant reminder of her late husband, Uche Ojeh.
“I feel like it reminds me of Uche and the things I love. Especially yellow butterflies,” Sheinelle explained, her voice filled with emotion. Uche, her beloved husband, tragically passed away from brain cancer at the age of 45 last year. The two had met at Northwestern University, where they bonded over shared dreams and eventually built a family with three children.
While filming in Jamaica, Sheinelle couldn’t help but smile when she noticed a yellow butterfly flutter by. Jenna had pointed out several butterflies during their walk, but Sheinelle confessed, “I’ve gotten particular now. I only look if they’re yellow.” And just as if on cue, the magical moment occurred: A yellow butterfly flew right overhead.
Sheinelle, ever the professional, quickly wiped away a tear, trying to maintain her composure. “I don’t want to cry on television,” she said, as the emotional moment touched both her and the audience. “I love that you guys saw it for me,” Sheinelle added, clearly moved by the unexpected sign from Uche.
She went on to share with the audience how the year since Uche’s passing has been challenging. February 4, Uche’s first birthday since his death, had been especially difficult. “I’ve just been so busy that I think I underestimated how tough this one would be,” she admitted. “In some ways, it’s harder than Thanksgiving or Christmas because you know those are coming, and everybody knows it with you, so you’re fortified with love and calls. But this is one of those where it’s just kind of his tribe and people in our family.”
As tears welled up, Sheinelle remained hopeful and grateful for the little signs that Uche’s spirit is still with her. “Jamaica gives me yellow butterflies, guys!” she said, a bright smile breaking through the sadness.
Jenna Bush Hager, too, was visibly moved by the moment, telling Sheinelle, “That was beautiful!” And for anyone who doubts the magic of Jamaica, Sheinelle had a final message: “Come to Jamaica, I’m telling you!” 🌟✨
A powerful reminder of the bond between love and the spirit that stays with us—forever. 💖 #SheinelleJones #YellowButterflies #UcheOjeh #TodayShow #LoveAndLoss #MagicalJamaica
