As Stephen Colbert prepares to say goodbye to The Late Show after 11 seasons, heâs opening up about a surprise crush that took him by surprise. The married host, 62, revealed on the Strike Force Five podcast that he was “wildly attracted” to a much-younger star during her appearance on his show in 2019âand it left him “not knowing what to do with his eyeballs.”

Colbert, known for his comedic chops, was asked by co-host Jimmy Kimmel if any guest had been so attractive it became distracting. His response? “I didnât know what to do with myself when Michelle Williams was on for the first time. I went, âF**k, what is wrong with my head?â Iâd better not look directly at her during this entire interview.”

The Dawsonâs Creek star, now 45, was a guest to promote the Fosse/Verdon miniseries. Colbert admitted he was taken aback by her beauty, even calling her “so beautiful” as he praised her “vibe” and “face.”

The two shared an on-air moment that turned into a memorable episode. After her appearance in 2019, Williams returned to Colbert’s show again in April 2025 to discuss the series Dying For Sex. During this time, Colbert couldnât help but recall his earlier thoughts and admitted that he “didnât know what to do with his eyeballs” in front of her.

Colbertâs confession sparked a flood of reactions from fans, as he has always maintained a professional relationship with his guests. Fans were quick to respond, sharing their thoughts on Colbertâs candidness, with some jokingly calling it “the most relatable thing heâs ever said.”
In addition to his admiration for Williams, Colbert also reflected on his âRachel Weisz problem,â explaining how he would have to “leave the building” when she appeared on his show for fear of saying something “stupid.”
Colbertâs final days on The Late Show are drawing near, with his show officially concluding on May 21. In the meantime, Colbert has secured a new post-cancellation project, co-writing a new Lord of the Rings film with his son and screenwriter Philippa Boyens.
