The first reactions are in, and Steven Spielberg’s latest sci-fi thriller, Disclosure Day, is being hailed as his “best film in 20 years.” Starring Emily Blunt, 43, as Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City meteorologist and former journalist caught in a sprawling government conspiracy, the movie promises a mix of suspense, mystery, and extraterrestrial intrigue ahead of its June 12 release.

Critics have praised Blunt’s performance as “incredible,” sharing the screen with Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo in a screenplay by David Koepp. Following a press viewing, one reporter described the film as “a dense roller-coaster blending chase, love story, and mystery, all wrapped in sci-fi wonder…Spielberg’s best in 20 years, with Emily Blunt delivering an all-time performance.”

Collider’s Steven Weintraub added: “Spielberg has delivered another towering home run. Emily Blunt is simply incredible. Stop watching trailers — just go see this.” Other reviews called the movie “riveting” and “absolutely phenomenal,” noting its mix of mystery, eerie creatures, and high-speed action that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

Disclosure Day marks Spielberg’s 37th film, based on his original story but written by Koepp, who previously co-wrote Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds. Spielberg’s fascination with UFOs stretches back to his childhood, inspiring early works such as the 1964 amateur sci-fi feature Firelight, and later classics like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T..
The trailer, released in December, teased a story that “promises to shake the world” with hints of alien life, cryptic crop circles, high-speed chases, and a meteorologist abruptly seized by mysterious extraterrestrial forces during a live broadcast. Josh O’Connor plays a determined man on a mission to reveal the truth about alien life, adding to the suspense. Cryptic billboards in Times Square and Los Angeles hinted: “All will be disclosed — Spielberg 06.12.26.”
Fans and critics alike are buzzing with excitement, eager to see how Spielberg blends his signature sci-fi magic with a gripping, modern conspiracy thriller.
