Talia Oatway has shared a deeply emotional update about her son, Oakley, revealing that he is undergoing his twentieth surgery at just three years old, after a concerning new symptom appeared.
The Geordie Shore star took to Instagram to share a heartfelt post with her followers, explaining the “incredibly hard” journey she’s been on as Oakley faces yet another surgery. In the post, Talia shared a series of touching photos of herself and Oakley, including one where she’s holding him close while a wire is inserted into his nose, and another showing him lying in a hospital bed surrounded by colorful medical tubes.
“Another unexpected hospital admission. Another surgery number 20,” Talia wrote, clearly exhausted but resolute. “Life with a medically complex child can change in a heartbeat. One minute we were at home, the next we were back in Liverpool facing another operation.”
Oakley, who has been battling health issues since birth, was diagnosed with Apert Syndrome — a genetic disorder that causes the bones in the skull, hands, and feet to fuse. He has also been diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, an abnormal buildup of fluid in the brain.
Talia shared her mother’s instinctive concern that led to the discovery of the latest health issue. “I knew something wasn’t right with him—and as his mum, I’ve learned to trust that instinct. It has never failed me.”
Being both a parent and a medic, Talia revealed the emotional toll it takes to get the proper care for Oakley. “You have to fight, advocate, question, and trust your gut even when you’re exhausted,” she said, acknowledging the difficulty of navigating the medical system.
Despite the challenges, Talia remains unwavering in her support for Oakley, sharing the realities of life with a child facing multiple surgeries. “Every hospital admission. Every surgery. It never gets easier. The fear, the waiting, the helplessness — it never goes away. But you keep going because your child needs you to be strong when they can’t be.”
The brave mum concluded the post on a hopeful note, saying, “We are finally home now, and my brave boy is recovering. And just like always, he’s already showing me what real strength looks like.”
Fans flooded the post’s comments section with messages of support for the family, praising both Talia’s strength and Oakley’s resilience. “Such a strong mum and brave boy,” one follower wrote. “Poor little guy. You are amazing. I honestly don’t think I could handle anything like this,” another added.
Talia’s journey with Oakley has been nothing short of heartbreaking, but her unshakable determination to care for him continues to inspire many. We wish Oakley a speedy recovery and hope brighter days are ahead for this incredible family. 💙
