In an emotional and unexpected move, Vernon Kay broke his silence on his shock separation from wife Tess Daly, speaking publicly for the first time since the announcement. The couple, after 23 years together, stunned fans with the news of their split, revealing that while the decision wasn’t easy, they were determined to remain supportive co-parents to their daughters Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16.
Appearing on his Radio Two show, Vernon took a moment to thank fans for their overwhelming support, saying, “I just want to say on behalf of myself and Tess, thank you for all your well-wishes. It’s been greatly appreciated.” His voice full of emotion, he reassured his listeners of his gratitude for their messages during this challenging time.
Vernon was seen publicly for the first time since the couple’s announcement, flashing a small, bittersweet smile as he made his way to the London studio. Rumors circulated over the weekend that after releasing their joint statement on Instagram, the pair celebrated with a glass of champagne in their shared mansion, marking the end of their 23-year marriage with a quiet toast.
Sources close to the couple have emphasized that their separation was the result of a gradual growing apart, with differing interests and hobbies causing the rift. Despite the emotional distance, Vernon and Tess have vowed to remain friends and prioritize their children’s well-being.
“It has been no big fallout, just a gradual realization that they want different things,” a source explained. “They’ve both agreed that the best path forward is to separate, and they are both very much in a good place despite the split.”
The couple began dating in 2001 after meeting on the set of Top of the Pops@Play, and Vernon proposed in 2002. Their whirlwind romance captivated fans and they were often regarded as one of the strongest couples in showbiz, even overcoming past scandals such as Vernon’s ‘sexting’ scandal with Rhian Sugden in 2010.
Despite their marriage ending, friends of the family revealed that the separation is amicable. “They’re still living together for now and have made it clear that this decision was not made lightly,” said a close friend. “They have had more than two decades of shared joy, but they believe it’s time for a new chapter.”
The couple’s joint statement also revealed that, despite the separation, there was no third party involved, and both Vernon and Tess remain fully committed to their roles as parents. While divorce lawyers have yet to be instructed, the two are determined to handle the process with dignity and respect.
“They’re both happy now,” a friend close to the family shared. “It’s all very amicable. They’ve had many years of laughter, and this is what’s best for everyone involved.”
