There was one familiar face missing from the TRIC Awards this year — and for many in the room, his absence did not go unnoticed.
As stars gathered at London’s prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel to celebrate the biggest names in television and radio, concern quickly turned toward beloved broadcaster Eamonn Holmes after longtime friend and colleague Anne Diamond revealed he was currently battling another health setback.
Taking to the stage during the ceremony, Anne paused to acknowledge those who had hoped to attend but were unable to make it.
And it was her update on Eamonn that instantly silenced the room.
“There are a couple of people who would love to be here but can’t,” Anne told guests. “Eamonn Holmes is not very well at the moment, but he is doing well, he is recovering, and we hope he will be back with us very soon.”
The brief but emotional message sparked an outpouring of support for the veteran presenter, whose ongoing health struggles have become one of the most difficult chapters of his career.
A Noticeable Absence
The timing was particularly poignant given Eamonn’s close association with the TRIC Awards and his role at GB News.
Just one year ago, he proudly accepted the award for Best News Programme on behalf of GB News Breakfast. Despite facing criticism from some audience members during his acceptance speech, Eamonn remained gracious and focused on thanking viewers who had supported the channel.
At the time, he paid tribute to colleagues and celebrated the hard work of the entire team, refusing to let any negativity overshadow the moment.
This year, however, his seat remained empty.
A Long And Difficult Health Battle
The 66-year-old presenter has faced an extraordinary series of medical challenges in recent years.
In April, Eamonn suffered a stroke, adding yet another obstacle to an already lengthy recovery journey. Thankfully, he later reassured supporters that he was receiving treatment and making progress.
But his health struggles stretch back much further.
In 2016, he underwent surgery on both hips in an attempt to relieve chronic pain affecting his back, legs and mobility. During his recovery, he suffered a devastating fall at home, fracturing his shoulder.
The setbacks continued.
He later battled a severe viral infection that caused an agonising facial rash and raised fears about potential damage to his eyesight. At the time, Eamonn admitted the ordeal came during an intensely stressful period of his life.
Then, in 2022, he was hospitalised for nine days after serious spinal complications led to problems affecting both his bladder and bowel function.
Only months later, another fall at his Surrey home left him with a fractured shoulder that required further surgery.
Determined To Keep Fighting
Despite years of pain, operations and rehabilitation, Eamonn has repeatedly shown remarkable resilience.
The broadcaster continues to explore every possible treatment option in his effort to regain mobility and independence. From spinal injections to investigating stem cell therapies, he has remained determined not to let his health define him.
Friends and colleagues frequently praise his positivity, even during the toughest periods of recovery.
That fighting spirit is one reason why Anne Diamond’s message offered reassurance alongside concern.
While Eamonn may be facing another difficult moment, those closest to him remain hopeful that he will soon be back doing what he loves most — connecting with viewers.
For now, fans across the country are sending their best wishes and hoping the much-loved presenter’s latest recovery will once again prove that his determination is every bit as strong as the challenges he faces.
