Jake Reiner, son of Hollywood legend Rob Reiner, has shared gut-wrenching details of the day he learned his parents were murdered and the devastating moment his brother, Nick, was charged with the killings.
In an emotional Substack post, 34-year-old Jake recalled the moment his sister, Romy, 28, broke the devastating news that their parents, Rob and Michele, had been found brutally stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home in December 2025.

“It was too devastating to comprehend,” Jake wrote. “The only thing I could focus on was getting to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister, I needed to figure out what had just happened.”
Jake spoke of the emotional toll the murders have taken on him, saying, “I was robbed of so many things that day. My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t meet their grandchild, and they won’t see me build the career I still dream of. It breaks my heart and enrages me at the same time.”

As he was grappling with the tragic news of his parents’ deaths, Jake was then struck by the horror of learning that his brother Nick was allegedly responsible.
“To lose both of our parents in such a violent way, and then to have your own brother at the center of it, is almost impossible to process,” Jake wrote.

Prosecutors have accused 32-year-old Nick of fatally stabbing their parents at their $13.5 million mansion in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on December 14. Nick has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Unthinkable: Nick Charged with Murder

Jake’s heartbreaking revelation came as Nick’s court case continues. Nick is facing two first-degree murder charges and is due back in court on April 29 for a discovery hearing regarding the evidence against him. He is currently being held without bail.

Despite the staggering emotional weight, Jake shared that the anguish from his parents’ deaths is compounded by the horrific realization that a family member may have caused it. “Every day since then has been horrendous,” Jake wrote. “Everything, from every meeting to every tear shed, is connected to the loss of my parents.”
Jake also described the toll this tragic chapter has had on him and his sister Romy, who continue to struggle, even as the public’s attention has shifted. He explained, “When you’re not living through this tragedy in the way Romy and I are, it’s hard for people to understand how horrific it truly has been.”
Jake went on to reflect on the loving, privileged childhood he had with his parents, noting that they were “the center of my life” and “the most giving people I have ever known.”
“Most people don’t have the luxury of having the best parents,” he wrote, “but I did. Their love for me, my brother, and my sister was unconditional.”
Jake recalled happy memories of family life, including watching musicals with his mother and going to baseball games with his father. Despite the extraordinary experiences, he said he would trade every privilege for one more hour with them.
“I would trade every Dodger game, every Broadway show, every vacation, if I could just have one more hour to say goodbye,” he wrote.
