In a surprising move that could signal a thaw in relations between Disney and the Trump administration, Vice President J.D. Vance is scheduled to make his debut on ABC’s daytime talk show “The View” on June 16.
Vance, who represents Ohio in the U.S. Senate, will join all six co-hosts — Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro — for a conversation about his new memoir, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.” Beyond the book, viewers can expect discussion around the administration’s priorities, current political headlines, and Vance’s personal journey in faith and leadership.
This appearance comes amid a tense backdrop for Disney, which is negotiating license renewals for eight ABC stations following a directive from the Federal Communications Commission. Disney has publicly expressed its objection, calling the FCC’s accelerated schedule “unlawful, arbitrary, and unconstitutional.”
“The View,” long celebrated for its political commentary, has also recently drawn scrutiny from federal regulators. Earlier this year, the FCC investigated whether the program’s on-air interviews with political figures violated “equal-time” laws, after Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico appeared on the show in February. The rules aim to ensure fairness across political parties, though exemptions exist for news coverage, interviews, and live event reporting.
Vance’s debut is sure to draw attention not just for its political implications, but also as a rare moment where a high-ranking Republican joins the long-running daytime talk show, blending politics, personal storytelling, and a touch of prime-time controversy.
